A Massive Life Update

Hey! So… I don’t post updates around me very often (unless it ties in around a specific topic I’m writing about), but something big is happening in my life right now and actually, I’d like to bring you along.

I’m uhmming and ahhing around whether I should dedicate a whole Instagram to this like is the trend for lifestyle & home currently, but I’m moving out of my parents house! I’m turning into a whole grown up who rents!

I found a great 1 bedroom flat which I can afford shared with my boyfriend, and we’re moving in together in the next few weeks. I was recommended as a tenant through one of my mum’s work colleagues, and now the property is mine!

I’m very fortunate in the fact that I have a really good, stable career ahead of me at the age of 20 with a decent wage packet. I’m also aware that I’m very lucky to just walk into a new flat as easy as I have, and some people struggle to find housing.

I have to organise a lot of things including council tax and TV licenses, but I’m most excited about the big bits and bobs shop I have ahead of me over the coming weeks. I’ve already bought an iron and some tea towels, and my nanny is buying me a microwave by tradition.

A lot of what I need is going to be second-hand for a few reasons: to be good for the planet; because buying something new can be expensive (especially when it comes to sofas, fridges and washing machines); and because they’re readily available to me.

I already have a few items: my bed; my TV; plenty of nicknacks to decorate with; drawers; and units. I also have a good supply of candles and bath stuff, so I shouldn’t go without for a while.

What I’m most looking forward to though is my first ever proper food shop for me and my boyfriend. I’ve never done a food shop for myself before and I know the novelty will wear off eventually but I love planning and prepping and lists so that’s my goal for when I move out, to become a meal prepper. We’ll see how it goes!

Ah! I’ve just remembered I have my own place to decorate for Christmas! That’s not too long away now!

I’m going to share updates on here along the way, and I’m likely to give you a flat tour without invading my own privacy too much in a month or two’s time once I’m settled in. Also, seeing as money-saving posts have done really well on my blog previously, I’ll share how I’m budgeting everything and how I’m going to manage to afford all of this.

I’m indecisive whether to start a YouTube channel documenting my move, interior design skills (what interior design skills?) and what it’s like to live in privately rented property, or whether I should dedicate an Instagram account to it instead. I think I’m leaning more towards Instagram because that will be easier especially with trying to manage my blog, my life, and my other social medias with my job.

If anyone would be interested in following an Instagram account surrounding me moving out of my family home, into my own place and the adventures that follow, then it would be great if you could let me know by leaving a comment or messaging me on Twitter!

Oh boy. Let’s become an adult shall we?

That is so awesome. Getting your own place for the first time is so special, and even though it can feel a bit stressful its also a place for you to grow and just be you. Good luck, Love Raven
