My Goals & Expectations For My Return To The Gym

My Goals & Expectations For My Return To The Gym

So… In my desperate attempt to become the heathier version of myself I almost reached last year, I have returned to the gym. Luckily, the gym I go to on and off had an offer on, I rejoined for £10 and no joining fee, which is great.

For a week I tried Kayla Itsines’ BBG Guide app. I got the 7 day free trial and it worked me out. My body is not used to that type of work out. A short review: I can see (and feel!) how BBG would work for people, and if I were to stick to it I’d probably see some fantastic results because it does make you move. However, that style of exercise isn’t quite for me just yet.

My current routine at the gym is LISS (low-intensity steady-state) and for this I walk on the treadmill for up to an hour. I’m also incorporating a few sessions of HIIT (high-intensity interval training) through beginning my couch to 5k journey with the NHS app.

I also enjoy using the treadmill, and if I’m ever at the gym and it’s empty enough for my liking I would like to familiarise myself with weight machines. I’ve also bought Carly Rowena’s recent release, some amazing looking workout cards. I bought the home & equipment workout card bundle and I can’t wait for them to arrive.

My Fitness Goals

Now, personal trainers will tell you to set achievable goals in order to motivate you further and try not to make them weight-focused. So my 3 goals for my return to the gym are:
  • Be able to run 5k before June.
  • Drop a dress size (or two!) before August.
  • Become confident using machines that aren’t exercise bikes or treadmills!
I will be aiming to achieve these by going to the gym at least 3 times a week, either before work or on my days off. My current gym schedule is Mondays before work, Wednesdays before work or during my day off, and Fridays before/after college or during my day off. I will also allow time on Saturdays to go to the gym should I want to, but Sundays are my day of rest!
Alongside this, when the weather is good I will be walking to and/or from work so my step count gets up.
I’m fed up of everyone calling me fat and asking if I’m pregnant, no, I’m not, I’m just incredibly out of shape. So, this is my plan to get back into shape and feeling confident for my big holiday at the end of August!
